Andrey Rublev squandered two match points in the second set but prevailed in three sets Friday to reach the semifinals of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament on Thursday in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The fourth-seeded Russian edged French qualifier Jeremy Chardy 7-6 (2), 6-7 (2), 6-4.
Rublev's semifinal opponent will be Stefanos Tsitsipas, who rallied past Russia's Karen Khachanov 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. The other semifinal will feature Croatia's Borna Coric, a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) winner over Japan's Kei Nishikori in the quarterfinals, and Hungarian qualifier Marton Fucsovics, a 6-4, 6-3 victor over the United States' Tommy Paul.
Rublev had two match points on Chardy's serve at 5-6 in the second set but couldn't convert. Rublev then won the first two points of the tiebreaker but lost the next seven in a row.
Rublev turned around the match by capturing the first four games of the third set. Though he gave back one of the two service breaks, he was able to close out the win.
