RIO DE JANEIRO, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Gremio have reached an agreement to sign their former prodigy Douglas Costa on loan from Juventus, both clubs said on Friday.
The deal will initially run until June 30, 2022, but Gremio have the option of making it permanent should Juventus choose not to extend his contract before December 31 this year, Gremio said.
"Welcome home," the Porto Alegre club tweeted along with a highlights video of the 30-year-old's career.
Costa, who has been capped 31 times for Brazil's national team, has struggled with injuries and inconsistent form since joining Juventus from Bayern Munich on a permanent deal in 2018.
This season, he has made just 11 Bundesliga appearances and scored one goal.
Costa began his professional career at Gremio in 2008 and made 30 appearances for the club before signing with Shakhtar Donetsk in 2010.
