SANTIAGO, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Chile reported on Wednesday 828 new COVID-19 infections and 25 more deaths in the last 24 hours, for a total of 1,611,917 cases and 35,176 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.
Cases have fallen by 14 percent in the last seven days and 46 percent in 14 days, reflecting a downward trend in recent weeks, the ministry noted.
It also released test results which showed a national positivity rate of 2.17 percent, pointing out that 11 of Chile's 16 regions have a positivity rate of less than or equal to 2 percent.
The southern region of Los Rios had the highest incidence rate in the country per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Atacama, Arica and Parinacota, and Maule.
Since Monday, the South American country's borders have been open to nationals and foreign residents who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 through the Santiago airport, as it strengthened control and follow-up measures to prevent the spread of new variants within Chile.
