HANOI, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Handmade pottery products by Vietnam's Cham people in Binh Thuan province are well known in the country for their natural materials and patterns.
Cham pottery products are mainly household utensils, including water jugs, stoves and pans, and religious and fine art objects. They are made from special clay carried by the waterfront of a local river. After the shaping stage, the fixed products are taken to dry under the sun before being fired by wood in the mid-day sun. As the firing stage ends, craftsmen splash a special liquid from forest trees onto the surface of the pottery to create natural patterns.
The art of pottery-making by the Cham people was added to the intangible cultural heritage list of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) last month.
