BUENOS AIRES, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Joaquin Pombo struck a first-half goal as Arsenal Sarandi clinched a 1-0 home win over Boca Juniors in Argentina's Primera Division on Thursday.
Pombo put the hosts ahead in the 25th minute by heading home after a Nestor Breitenbruch corner.
Boca's hopes of a comeback were dealt a major blow just after halftime time when right-back Marcelo Weigandt was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Pombo.
Arsenal Sarandi rarely looked troubled thereafter as they eased to their fifth win of the campaign. Carlos Ruiz's men are 27th in the 28-team standings with 17 points from 19 outings, two points above last-placed Union Santa Fe.
Boca are now ninth with 27 points, having lost eight of their 19 games so far this season. The Buenos Aires giants are 14 points behind leaders River Plate, who have a game in hand.
In Thursday's only other Primera Division fixture, Sarmiento were held to a goalless home draw by Newell's Old Boys.
