NEW YORK, New York - U.S. stocks floundered on Thursday as new trade tariffs were imposed, and those paused were given the green light. Technology stocks bore the brunt of the sell-off. Following are the closing quotes of the major U.S. indices:
S&P 500: The index fell by 94.49 points, a decrease of 1.59 percent, closing at 5,861.57.
Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA): The DJIA declined by 193.62 points, down 0.45 percent, ending at 43,239.50.
NASDAQ Composite: The NASDAQ saw a significant drop of 530.85 points, a loss of 2.78 percent, finishing at 18,544.42.
Canada:
S&P/TSX Composite Index (Canada): The Canadian index decreased by 200.12 points, a decline of 0.79 percent, settling at 25,128.24.
European Markets:
FTSE 100 (UK): The FTSE 100 edged up by 24.75 points, an increase of 0.28 percent, closing at 8,756.21.
DAX (Germany): Germany's DAX dropped by 243.22 points, a decrease of 1.07 percent, ending at 22,550.89.
CAC 40 (France): The French CAC 40 declined by 41.40 points, down 0.51 percent, finishing at 8,102.52.
EURO STOXX 50: This pan-European index fell by 55.43 points, a reduction of 1.00 percent, closing at 5,472.56.
